Crystal Shell Process

Description

(Please look at the full-view so it isn't all wonky and weirdly anti-aliased.)

This isn't really much of a tutorial, unless my techniques all that enlightening. XD It's just a sequential arrangement of the various stages of a crystallizing shell that I drew a while ago. In case it isn't self-evident, here are the steps:

1.) Rough free-hand sketch of the body of the shell.

2.) Clean-up of the sketch.

3.) Made outlines of the crystals with the line tool.

4.) Added the facet lines and the lip of the shell.

5.) Basic colors selected and filled in. Also adjusted a some facets.

6.) Initial color, shade, and line scheme completed. I wasn't fully satisfied, so...

7.) I fixed it to my liking.

(PS: It's actually a design that I'd eventually like to use as a logo for an art store or something of that variety; it's always been my dream to make a little money on the side as an artist. I wanted to use the name "Amici," which has my nickname in it and also means "friends" in Latin, but it turns out that everyone and their brother beat me to the punch. XD)

Here's a piece from another pixel artist that's based on this:
